Oh Mighty God , who are we ? That you love us this much. Did we do anything that we deserved your grace, Is there any good that we did? Did we bring any magnificent gift in your altar ? Did we come up with some great idea? Father ,Father , what did we do ? !!! What did we do my God, what is it Father, What is it my God?
I have looked everywhere but I have not found anything good. There is nothing good and worthy that I discovered in me, Father not even one , I have searched inside out but I have came back empty handed. I am sinner , there is nothing good in me, there is absolutely nothing intrinsically good in me. I have tried to pretend and look good and appear righteous but you and I know that there is nothing worthy and wonderful in the person that I am. There is no will to do good and to do the right thing. When I resolve to do the right thing I end up doing the bad thing. Even when I do a good thing I do a bad thing in it. There is nothing attractive and glorious in me. Heavenly father I am ridden with sin and unrighteousness. My heart is sinking in covetousness and fleshly desires. I have no potential in me , I have no ability that is intrinsically mine. I don't have the means at all.
But God .... But God.... My God Maker and Creator of all things , Redeemer of hopeless and lost souls. You have overtaken my whole being with your love and your grace. You have rescued me from the present hell and eternal hell. You have captured me from darkness . You have given me your own righteousness , you have given me your own divine nature. You given me hope, you have given my life meaning. I have hope and I have you in my life.
Ephesians 2:1-10 1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
"And you were dead in the trespasses and sins" Death is a hopeless imprisonment. Its a desperate incarceration. There is no hope of escape to life at all. In death someones destiny is completed and done. There is no home coming in death. Its an imprisonment where there is no parole at all. Death is eternal enslavement to evil where there is not even a reason or hope for emancipation. In plain words death is a totally hopeless and irreversible state. If an object has been burned into ashes it can never be restored into its original state. This is our dismal diagnosis without Jesus Christ and it has a completely negative prognosis. Here I am specifically referring to spiritual death. With Jesus Christ death is rendered powerless , because when Jesus comes into my life He quickens within me and makes me alive together with Him. This is the sheer power of the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, it totally overtakes us and changes us completely.
This is to expose that Jesus Christ makes the impossible possible , He reverses the irreversible. This to show that the new birth is a miraculous event in our lives. It is not ushered in by the will of the flesh or by the will of man. The new birth is not familial inheritance but it is completely God's miraculous activity in our lives. The new birth is not our achievement its absolutely God'S divine work in us. We should fight and capture every thought that begins to suggest that we somehow influenced or worked to bring about our salvation. It was because of God , by God , through God and for God. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved.
